Work on the £5.5 million redevelopment of Troon Leisure Centre has reached the halfway mark, with major structural changes now clearly visible on site.

The investment will modernise the building, make it cheaper and greener to run, and give Troon a much-improved community hub for health and fitness.

Contractors have finished putting up the steel frame for the extensions, poured the concrete ground floors, laid the protective gas membranes, and finished the south section of the new roof.

Over the coming weeks, teams are turning their attention to sealing the exterior. This phase involves installing heavy insulation, cavity barriers, and zinc cladding to make the facility fully weatherproof and cut future heating demands.

When it opens, the updated centre will offer:

  • An expanded, modern fitness suite

  • A new public reception area and café

  • Fully upgraded changing areas and improved layout throughout

  • Refreshed swimming pool and sports hall spaces

  • Low-carbon heating and energy systems to reduce running costs and lower council emissions

We want high-quality, reliable facilities that encourage people to stay active, and this project will give the town a centre fit for the next few decades. Lowering energy demand across our buildings is a priority, and the low-carbon systems being installed here will keep running costs down while helping us meet our net-zero targets.”

The project is being delivered for the council by Alliance Leisure via the UK Leisure Framework, supported by principal contractor Thomas Johnstone alongside Bellrock, Holmes Miller, Struer, and Wallace Whittle.

The council expects to open the doors to the public in early 2027.
