Troon Progress Update July 2026

Works continue at Troon Leisure Club, with the full frame now being erected and showcasing the full new size of the facility. Here are a few updated on what the construction team have been up to over the past few months.  

  • Major refurbishment and extension works continue to progress well at Troon Leisure Centre. 
  • New internal walls and room layouts are now taking shape, with partition works progressing throughout the building. 
  • The first phase of floor screeding has now been completed within the changing village areas. 
  • Mechanical and electrical services continue to be installed throughout the facility, providing the infrastructure required for the new customer spaces. 
  • Significant progress has been made on the new extension, with structural steelwork installed and roof construction advancing. 
  • External wall systems, insulation and fire protection measures are now being installed, helping to define the final appearance of the new facility. 
  • New entrance features, glazing systems and customer-facing facilities are progressing through manufacture ahead of installation later this year.

  • Main entrance glazing and screen installations.
  • Internal wall and floor finishes advancing throughout the building.
  • Continued roof completion works on new extensions. 
  • External landscaping and car park infrastructure works beginning in selected areas.
Autumn 2026
  • Wall and floor tiling progressing across refurbished areas. 
  • Decoration and interior finishes commencing. 
  • Installation of specialist building equipment and air handling systems.
  • Solar photovoltaic panels scheduled for installation during November.

Site Progress So Far

Transforming the Existing Building

Significant early works have now been completed, laying the foundations for the new facility:

• Internal strip-out works fully completed
• Removal of outdated infrastructure in changing areas
• Drainage systems installed below ground
• Structural supports added for existing plant equipment

Work is well underway on the new extension areas and structural base:

• Ground beams and pile caps installed
• Formation works progressing in new activity spaces
• Preparation works for structural steel installation

• Continued roof construction and completion of structural elements
• Installation of steel framework and cladding
• Progress on internal mechanical and electrical systems
• Further development of extension areas
• Installation of internal partitions and space layouts

Troon Leisure Club is Unrecognisable!

Significant progress has been made at Troon Leisure Club over the past month, with the transformation of the facility now well underway.

Works completed to date include the full clearance and decommissioning of the existing facility, installation of contractor offices and welfare cabins, and the erection of Heras fencing and CCTV around the site perimeter. The construction team has been formally inducted and mobilised on site. Internal walls have been removed, the building stripped back to its core structure, and the front elevation opened up in preparation for forthcoming works.

Works Underway at Troon Leisure Club

South Ayrshire Council is pleased to announce that works on the upgrade and extension of Troon Leisure Club are underway.

A ceremony was held at the facility on Monday 9 February to mark the commencement of these improvements, which will combine retained refurbished and new-build elements to provide:

  • A new fitness gym and multi-functional studio
  • New building frontage, entrance, reception, and circulation area
  • A refurbished wet changing area
  • A new dry changing area
  • New baby change facilities, accessible changing, and toilet provision
  • Alterations to external parking, access and landscaping arrangements.

The project is on track for completion in the Spring of 2027.

South Ayrshire Council’s Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, said: “I’m pleased that works to modernise and expand Troon Leisure Centre are underway.  This is the latest in a series of upgrades we’re making across our Sport and Leisure facilities in South Ayrshire, showing our commitment to investing in and improving our services.”

South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Leisure and Community Services, Councillor Chris Cullen, said: “This leisure facility is at the heart of the Troon community, so it’s exciting to announce that works are progressing. The new and improved Club will offer even more opportunities for Troon locals and visitors to improve their health and wellbeing.”

South Ayrshire Council’s Policy Lead for Housing and Property Services, Councillor Martin Kilbride, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to mark this milestone in the delivery of the Troon Leisure Club project. The investment in a facility that is modern, efficient, sustainable and fit for purpose is part of wider improvements across our Sport and Leisure provision.”

Jo Cameron, Alliance Delivery Manager, said: “By working with trusted, Scotland-based partners, we’re ensuring the Troon Leisure Club upgrade is delivered with local insight and expertise. Together, we’re creating a sustainable, future-ready facility that supports health, wellbeing and social connection across the whole community, and we’re really pleased to see work underway.”

Frank Foy, Project Director at Thomas Johnstone Ltd., said: “This project brings together a strong team with a shared focus on quality, coordination and long-term value. As works get underway, our role as main contractor draws on our specialist experience in delivering building extensions and refurbishments within live environments. We’re pleased to be working closely with Alliance Leisure once again, alongside South Ayrshire Council, to deliver a well-considered solution for the local community.”

Troon Leisure Club upgrade and Muirhead Activity Centre Community Fitness Hub Opening

Following the announcement of plans to upgrade and extend Troon Leisure Club, we can confirm that the facility will close on Thursday 4 December at 9:00pm for the commencement of works.

Works will take around 12 months to complete.

Our Sport & Leisure team have contacted all members, including Learn2 customers, directly to advise of the closure and advise of membership options for the duration of closure.  

To help everyone stay up to date with the progress of the works and the temporary impact these may have on some of the services we provide at the leisure club, we have launched this brand-new microsite.

We are also pleased to confirm the opening of a temporary Community Fitness Hub at Muirhead Activity Centre on Friday 5 December, to ensure customers and members of the community have access to facilities during the refurbishment of Troon Leisure Club. 

A selection of fitness classes will be held at Muirhead Activity Centre, and operational hours will be extended to accommodate increased facility use. Find out more here – Our Venues – South Ayrshire Council

Troon Leisure Club upgrade and Muirhead Activity Centre Community Fitness Hub opening

South Ayrshire Council’s plans to upgrade and extend Troon Leisure Club are underway. This will continue the momentum of investment across our facilities, following the successful re-opening of Prestwick Leisure Club after its extensive upgrade works.*

Subject to planning permission, works are expected to commence next month. The works will take around 12 months to complete.

Once again, we will collaborate with leisure industry experts, Alliance Leisure to deliver the proposed programme of works.

Project proposals include a combination of retained, refurbished, and new-build elements including:

  • A new fitness gym and multi-functional studio
  • New building frontage, entrance, reception, and circulation area
  • A refurbished wet changing area
  • A new dry changing area
  • New baby change facilities, accessible changing, and toilet provision
  • Alterations to external parking, access, and landscaping arrangements.

To give our customers and Sport & Leisure members the opportunity to view plans and see how the facility will look when the works are complete, we are hosting a public engagement event at Troon Concert and Walker Hall.  The session will run from 2:00pm-5:00pm on Tuesday 28 October 2025.

Our Sport & Leisure team will be in touch directly with all members, including Learn2 customers, regarding alternative arrangements available during the works at Troon Leisure Club. 

To help everyone stay up to date with the progress of the works and the temporary impact these may have on some of the services we provide at the leisure club, we have launched this brand-new micro-site.

During the refurbishment programme, we are also pleased to announce the opening of a temporary Community Fitness Hub at Muirhead Activity Centre this November. This will ensure customers and members of the community have access to state-of-the art facilities during the refurbishment of Troon Leisure Club.  In addition, we will be introducing a selection of fitness classes.  The operational hours of Muirhead Activity Centre will increase to accommodate increased facility use.

Squash courts at Muirhead Activity Centre will close on Friday 24 October to make way for the Community Fitness Hub.

Alternative provision for customers who wish to play Squash during this time period is available at Citadel Leisure Centre, Dundonald Activity Centre, Coylton Activity Centre and Mossblown Activity Centre.  These courts can be booked and paid via our Sport & Leisure app.
