Works Underway at Troon Leisure Club
South Ayrshire Council is pleased to announce that works on the upgrade and extension of Troon Leisure Club are underway.
A ceremony was held at the facility on Monday 9 February to mark the commencement of these improvements, which will combine retained refurbished and new-build elements to provide:
- A new fitness gym and multi-functional studio
- New building frontage, entrance, reception, and circulation area
- A refurbished wet changing area
- A new dry changing area
- New baby change facilities, accessible changing, and toilet provision
- Alterations to external parking, access and landscaping arrangements.
The project is on track for completion in the Spring of 2027.

South Ayrshire Council’s Depute Leader and Policy Lead for Commercial/Operational Services, Councillor Alec Clark, said: “I’m pleased that works to modernise and expand Troon Leisure Centre are underway. This is the latest in a series of upgrades we’re making across our Sport and Leisure facilities in South Ayrshire, showing our commitment to investing in and improving our services.”

The new and improved Club will offer even more opportunities for Troon locals and visitors to improve their health and wellbeing.”

Troon Leisure Club upgrade and Muirhead Activity Centre Community Fitness Hub Opening
Following the announcement of plans to upgrade and extend Troon Leisure Club, we can confirm that the facility will close on Thursday 4 December at 9:00pm for the commencement of works.
Works will take around 12 months to complete.
Our Sport & Leisure team have contacted all members, including Learn2 customers, directly to advise of the closure and advise of membership options for the duration of closure.
To help everyone stay up to date with the progress of the works and the temporary impact these may have on some of the services we provide at the leisure club, we have launched this brand-new microsite.
We are also pleased to confirm the opening of a temporary Community Fitness Hub at Muirhead Activity Centre on Friday 5 December, to ensure customers and members of the community have access to facilities during the refurbishment of Troon Leisure Club.

Troon Leisure Club upgrade and Muirhead Activity Centre Community Fitness Hub opening
South Ayrshire Council’s plans to upgrade and extend Troon Leisure Club are underway. This will continue the momentum of investment across our facilities, following the successful re-opening of Prestwick Leisure Club after its extensive upgrade works.*
Subject to planning permission, works are expected to commence next month. The works will take around 12 months to complete.
Once again, we will collaborate with leisure industry experts, Alliance Leisure to deliver the proposed programme of works.
Project proposals include a combination of retained, refurbished, and new-build elements including:
- A new fitness gym and multi-functional studio
- New building frontage, entrance, reception, and circulation area
- A refurbished wet changing area
- A new dry changing area
- New baby change facilities, accessible changing, and toilet provision
- Alterations to external parking, access, and landscaping arrangements.
To give our customers and Sport & Leisure members the opportunity to view plans and see how the facility will look when the works are complete, we are hosting a public engagement event at Troon Concert and Walker Hall. The session will run from 2:00pm-5:00pm on Tuesday 28 October 2025.
Our Sport & Leisure team will be in touch directly with all members, including Learn2 customers, regarding alternative arrangements available during the works at Troon Leisure Club.
To help everyone stay up to date with the progress of the works and the temporary impact these may have on some of the services we provide at the leisure club, we have launched this brand-new micro-site.
During the refurbishment programme, we are also pleased to announce the opening of a temporary Community Fitness Hub at Muirhead Activity Centre this November. This will ensure customers and members of the community have access to state-of-the art facilities during the refurbishment of Troon Leisure Club. In addition, we will be introducing a selection of fitness classes. The operational hours of Muirhead Activity Centre will increase to accommodate increased facility use.
Squash courts at Muirhead Activity Centre will close on Friday 24 October to make way for the Community Fitness Hub.
Alternative provision for customers who wish to play Squash during this time period is available at Citadel Leisure Centre, Dundonald Activity Centre, Coylton Activity Centre and Mossblown Activity Centre. These courts can be booked and paid via our Sport & Leisure app.
